Sand filters are a simple, effective and widely used technology for removing suspended solids and coarse particles from raw water, wastewater or process water. The operating principle is based on the physical filtration of water through one or more layers of silica sand of a specific grain size. They can be made of steel, stainless steel or fibreglass, and operate either by gravity or under pressure.
